From Wedding Bells to Healing Journeys: Our New Path

Hi there, I’m Betsy – Let’s Catch Up!

It’s been a while since my last post, and a lot has happened over the past five months. Back in May, I was ready to jump back into regular blogging, but life had other plans. Today, I wanted to share why I took another step back and give you an update on where I’ve been.

Two major events have taken over my life: planning my son’s wedding and navigating my husband’s recent cancer diagnosis.

Celebrating Jeremy and Glad

First, the wedding! Jeremy and Glad’s day was truly beautiful, and we were so blessed by friends and family who helped us celebrate. Glad’s parents flew in from Malaysia two weeks before the wedding, so we had time to bond and share in the excitement.

Of course, there were a few hiccups—like not being able to find Glad’s veil the morning of the wedding—but God provided! A friend who had gotten married just two weeks before lent us her veil, saving the day. I look back now and can see how God orchestrated everything—from Jeremy and Glad meeting in eighth grade to their special day as husband and wife. His goodness was so evident in every step.

Facing Tom’s Cancer Diagnosis

Around the same time, we learned that my husband, Tom, has prostate cancer. Given his family history, it wasn’t completely unexpected, but the news still hit hard. After a series of tests and consultations, we began researching our options.

Rather than jumping straight into conventional treatments, we’ve opted to explore holistic approaches. We’ve revamped our diet, incorporated specialized therapies, and added a focus on prayer. Later this month, Tom will visit a clinic in Santa Barbara for an update on his progress and to see how his body is responding.

Through this process, I’ve been reminded of a few important lessons about managing expectations and priorities, which I think may resonate with you:

  • Give Yourself Grace: We all go through seasons where we can’t do it all. I’ve had to remind myself that it’s okay to take a step back and focus on what really matters. Everything else can wait.

  • Evaluate What’s Most Important: Over time, I’ve learned that regularly reflecting on what’s most important can help us adjust our priorities. Sometimes it’s okay to let go of things that no longer serve us.

  • Take Small Steps: When it comes to health, family, or work, small consistent steps add up. Trying to do everything perfectly can be overwhelming, but focusing on just a few key things helps.

  • Lean on Community: I’ve been so grateful for the support of family and friends. Don’t hesitate to lean on your community during hard times. They can help lighten the load when life gets overwhelming.

A Shift Toward Holistic Living

One unexpected blessing in all of this has been learning just how much our lifestyle impacts our health. From the food we eat to the products we use, we’ve been making changes to support Tom’s healing and improve our overall well-being. It’s opened my eyes to how much control we have over our health—through both faith and intentional living.

This experience has sparked a new direction for the blog. Moving forward, I’ll be sharing the changes we’re making in our diet, the products we’re using (and avoiding), and how we’re fostering God-given healing in our bodies. If you’re on a similar journey of health and balance, I hope you’ll join me in this season of transformation.

As I navigate this new season of life—balancing family, health challenges, and everything in between—I want to be honest with you: consistency may not always be my strong suit right now. Life has a way of reshuffling our priorities, and I’m learning to embrace that.

That said, I’m committed to sharing new insights and discoveries with you whenever I can. Whether it’s a health tip, a change we’re making, or a product that’s making a difference, I’ll do my best to keep you updated. You can also check out my Betsy’s Recommends page, where I’ll be linking to tools, products, and resources that I’m finding helpful in our journey toward holistic living.

Thank you for sticking with me through this time of transition. I appreciate your support, and if this new direction doesn’t resonate with you, I completely understand. Wherever life takes you, I wish you health and peace.

With gratitude,

Betsy
